Restaurant i Coming to Gramercy Next Week
Every boutique hotel needs a destination restaurant these days. In the case of the Charles Hotel, the restaurant is coming first. Restaurant i is expected to open next week on Broadway between 19th and 20th streets in a space formerly occupied by a Jennifer Convertibles warehouse. Andy Seidel, formerly of Spice Market and the now defunct Montrachet, will be at the helm.

Expect an Asian-accented menu, including starters like pulled beef short ribs with kimchi on a steamed bun ($5) and lump crab with sticky rice in red curry-coconut broth ($13). Mains include miso cod, Angus strip steak, and a lamb burger. Of course, no hotel restaurant is complete these days without a bar. Set to open later this fall, it will serve, in addition to house cocktails, wines by the glass, and craft beer, a selection of Tavalon teas. The hotel is slated to open this winter.
