The Best Thing I Ate Yesterday

Welcome to The Best Thing I Ate Yesterday, where we endeavor to remember the very best thing we stuffed down our gullets over the past 24 hours. Why? Because the only thing better than enjoying a meal is wallowing in the memory of one savored in the recent past.

Today's fond reminiscences ...

Jesse Hirsch: Baby Jesus Cake (warm date cake drizzled with caramel and whipped cream) from Vesta (2102 30th Avenue, Astoria, Queens; 718-545-5550).

Rebecca Marx: Nordic Breads' Ruis bread with smoked trout and sliced avocado.

Chantal Martineau: Deep-fried whole fish with a variety of tasty dipping sauces - kewpie mayo, Hawaiian red and black sea salt - at the Leblon party at Lani Kai (525 Broome Street; 646-596-8778). (It will be on the menu though, sadly, it was a rather unsustainable red snapper.)

Robert Sietsema: French fries with plenty of ketchup at ReBar (147 Front Street, Dumbo, Brooklyn, 718-797-2322).
