Dish No. 10: Avocado Pop From La Newyorkina

Welcome to 100 Dishes to Eat Now, Fork in the Road's handy list of some of our favorite dishes -- old standbys and new finds alike -- compiled daily.

Today's pick: Avocado pop ($4) from La Newyorkina (lanewyorkina.com).

La Newyorkina appeared on the scene this summer, selling paletas at the Hester Street Fair. Among their wares was the jolly green giant pictured above. It is what its color suggests it is: more or less a mass of frozen avocado, adulterated with a small, perfectly balanced amount of sugar. It's intensely, deliriously rich, and without question the first popsicle we've ever been able to categorize as a g-u-t-b-o-m-b.

And while some might bemoan the fact that we've now reached a point in culinary history where a popsicle can cost $4, the price tag is somewhat mitigated by the fact that the pop packs enough of a punch to qualify as, if not an entire meal, then at least a fairly generous entré. Regardless of whether it's treated as a snack or meal replacement, it's delicious.
