La Flaca Is Open for Business

It's not every day, or even every year, that a restaurant opens on Grand Street east of Essex, so this is potentially exciting news for Co-Op Village residents: La Flaca, a Mexican restaurant at 384 Grand Street, opened its doors last night.

La Flaca occupies the former Two Boots Tavern space, and is owned by Daniela Libertini and Bobby Gonzales. The restaurant will initially only be open for dinner -- its 4 a.m. closing time has already raised the ire of some of the neighbors -- and weekend brunch, but may expand to lunchtime service.

The restaurant's menu is heavy on tacos, flautas, and burritos, and makes concessions to vegetarians by offering "vegetarian chicken" substitutes on many of its offerings. There's also an extensive menu of tequila, bourbon, and rye, which in the winter months will likely be a balm to anyone braving the winds coming off of the East River.
