Paul the Octopus Has Died
Paul in happier days.
Sad, sad news in cephalopods this morning: Paul the psychic octopus, who predicted the results of World Cup soccer games with eerie accuracy, has died in his aquarium in Oberhausen, Germany.
Paul was two and a half years old, which is actually a normal life span for an octopus -- so although Paul received death threats over his World Cup predictions, and even drew the ire of Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, his death is thought to have occurred naturally.
After predicting all the German games as well as the final game with 100 percent accuracy, a book deal and movie contract followed, but he didn't have much time to enjoy his sudden fame. Paul's carers are reportedly devastated. The octopus's body will be cremated.
