Chef Harold Dieterle
Harold Dieterle, he of Top Chef's first season, is the owner and chef of Perilla. Last week, he opened Kin Shop, a modern Thai restaurant in the West Village.

Yesterday, we caught up with Dieterle to get the details on Kin Shop's food and his thoughts on reality TV.

Today, in the second half of the Q&A, the chef talks about his favorite places to eat, the restaurant trends that tire him, Yelp, and the last book he read.

What are your favorite places to go on your day off?

Lupa for my Roman food fix. I also like Sichuan food a lot and go to Szechuan Gourmet. 15 East for stellar Japanese and sushi.

Any Thai restaurants you particularly like?

I'm still trying to eat at Lotus of Siam in Vegas--I hear it's really sharp. Last time I was there they were closed, unfortunately.

Tell us about a restaurant trend that you're tired of.

I enjoy them from time to time, but burgers and pizza. I'm rooting for folks that are going for something a little different or filling a niche.

What would you like to see more of in New York restaurants?

I appreciate social media and we have benefited greatly from it. That said, I do suggest folks not to get so distracted reporting on their meal that they miss experiencing it fully--let alone the rest of the evening. I say, go home, make a little love, then post the Yelp review in the morning.
