Bruce's "Baker to the Stars" Bakery Migrating From Long Island to Manhattan

The ex-Wai Café spot on Sixth Avenue and 17th Street will soon be inhabited by Bruce's, a Long Island bakery that bills itself as "Baker to the Stars." Jeremiah Moss noticed the storefront signage, which advises passersby that the "GRAND OPENING" will come "soon."

In addition to doing a variety of cheesecakes, cookies, and traditional Jewish pastries like hamentashen, babka, and mandel bread, the 40-year-old bakery claims to have "INVENTED the celebrity 'look-a-like' cake." Since 1983, when Bruce's was called upon to make an edible version of Bob Hope for the entertainer's 80th birthday, it has churned out frosted manifestations of the likes of Jay Leno, Bill Cosby, Christie Brinkley, Cindy Crawford, Katie Couric, Matt Lauer, Tom Cruise, Heather Locklear, Lou Diamond Phillips, Howard Stern, Lea Thompson, and Julio Iglesias.

So if you've ever wanted to know what Lou Diamond Phillips looks like smeared with buttercream, here's your chance. Hey, at least it's not more cupcakes.
