Takeru Kobayashi may be a world champion when it comes to wolfing hot dogs, but the Japanese-born competitive eater couldn't swallow enough pizza this past Saturday to break the Guinness World Record for pie eating.

The Daily News reports that Kobayashi failed beat the world record of 1 minute and 45 seconds for eating a 12-inch pie due to the fact that he had to use utensils instead of just his hands.

"It was hard," Kobayashi was quoted as saying after the event in Brooklyn. "The pizza's condition was not really good. It was too soft and difficult to eat."

This is the second time this year that Kobayashi has had to publicly defend himself. You may recall he was arrested this summer for an explosive episode at the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island. And they call it a pseudo-sport.
