The steak-and-martini dinner, once a hallmark of heavyweights and big shots, is no longer on the menu for many powerful people. As Joel Stein writes in BusinessWeek, some of the world's biggest successes are going vegan, including Steve Wynn, Russell Simmons, and former fast-food lover Bill Clinton, as well as Ford's executive chairman of the board, Bill Ford, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, and even former heavyweight champion (and one-time ear chewer) Mike Tyson.

PETA's president, Ingrid E. Newkirk, isn't surprised:

"CEOs are smart. ... The information is everywhere now. Instead of 'Better buy this blue chip,' it's 'Better eat vegan.'"

The author has his own theories on the trend:

Herein lies veganism's appeal to moguls: It affords them the opportunity to control their own health with the same manic id with which they control everything else.
