East Villagers Don't Seem to Want a Shake Shack

The end is near.
After a recent New York Times story about East 7th Street so helpfully pointed out that Tompkins Square Park does not contain a Shake Shack, EV Grieve took it upon itself to poll fellow East Villagers about how they would feel about such a possibility.

While it's somewhat unsurprising that only 23 percent of the 384 respondents would welcome the development, only 2 percent more said they would "fight like hell to make sure it never happens." More telling is the majority 28 percent who simply threw up their hands and declared "the end is near," signaling that -- with the exception of Mulberry Street, perhaps -- there are few places left in Manhattan that don't expect to be requisitioned for burger and frozen custard sales.
