Tiny tasting menu portions do not necessarily equal tiny calories, according to a nutritionist hired by Zagat Buzz to estimate the caloric cargo load of meals at Alinea, Per Se, L'Atelier, Compose, and wd~50. The menus weighed in at an average of 2,242 calories, with Alinea's $395 menu taking the lead with 3,045 calories -- 3,295 with wine. You could do the same amount of damage with 11 McDonald's hamburgers, and save $373, though the bragging rights wouldn't be quite up to par.
