Scott Conant Closes Faustina, Abandons 'Shit-Ugly' Cooper Square Hotel

In reviewing Scott Conant's Faustina last April, Our Man Sietsema wondered if the restaurant's fate would be any different than that of Table 8, its doomed, widely panned predecessor in the equally reviled Cooper Square Hotel. Somewhat unsurprisingly (except to those who thought it had already closed), given the restaurant's numerous lukewarm reviews and the lackluster predicament of the shit-ugly hotel itself, Conant is putting Faustina out of its misery. The chef told Florence Fabricant that he'll close the restaurant tomorrow because the hotel's new owners want to run a restaurant themselves, possibly one serving American comfort food. He has no current plans to reopen Faustina elsewhere.
