What to Drink at The National: The Winter Break

Each week in The Daily Shot, we have ourselves a drink that we think you should try, too.

Take a Winter Break at the National.
The drink: Winter Break

The bar: The National, 557 Lexington Avenue, 212-715-2400

The price: $12

The ingredients: Bourbon, Pimm's, Wood's cider, and winter spices, served on the rocks with a rosemary sprig garnish.

The buzz: Pimm's is usually associated with summer, the Cup's presence on cocktail menus being for many the sign that the season has arrived. But this bitter, spiced bourbon drink brings tidings of a different kind of warmth: that which radiates from a rattly old radiator, say, on a wintry day. The liqueur brightens fizzy cider, its herbaceous notes accented by the whiff of rosemary taken with each sip. It makes for a nice change from the surge of sweet drinks the holiday season invariably brings. Bah, humbug.
