Donald Trump Closes in on Tavern on the Green
Just when you thought that Tavern on the Green would be forever relegated to the status of fancy food truck court, Donald Trump swoops in to save the day. Sort of. He's in the process of forging a deal that could revive the restaurant, reports Diner's Journal. And if he closes the deal, he plans to spend $20 million of his own money to transform it into "the highest-grossing restaurant on the planet.'' Yikes.

Apparently, for the deal to move forward, Trump would need the city Parks Department to grant him the operating license, which could prove a difficult task. Despite Trump's claims that he's the only one who can pull off reopening the restaurant to its former glory because, in his own words, he's "the only one who has the money," giving him free rein could easily result in disaster. After all, his idea of glory (ahem, Trump Tower, cough, sputter, gag) is more than likely a world away from what most New Yorkers would like to see in Central Park.
