Brooklyn's Union Market Coming Soon to Manhattan
EV Grieve Houston Street, the next foodie mecca?
Union Market, the Brooklyn-based mini-chain of gourmet grocery stores specializing in cheese, charcuterie, and exotic produce, will be opening its first Manhattan venture at 240 East Houston Street sometime in fall 2011.
EV Grieve has some pictures of the signage that has gone up over three storefronts on Houston and Avenue A (plus several opinions from commenters). Union Market has done well in Brooklyn, but it is somewhat questionable how this one will fare, given that the city's largest Whole Foods (a whopping 71,000 square feet) is six short blocks away. Or the more Kombucha and artisanal goat cheese, the better?
