New Life for Monte's on Carroll Street?

In its heyday, Monte's Venetian Room was a favored playground of the Rat Pack and reputed to have the best Italian cheesecake in all of Brooklyn. But when the Carroll Street restaurant closed its doors in 2008 after 102 years of service, it was a sad, musty shadow of its former self.

But now, there are signs that the restaurant may be reborn, sort of: Yesterday, after noticing a work permit for the space, Brownstoner happened upon a liquor-license application for "Dominick's of Carroll Street" posted on the window. Could it be some relation to Dominick's of Arthur Avenue? And, more important, will whoever it is keep the huge mural of Venice intact?
