Smashburger Gets Closer to NYC With a Newark Airport Location, Opening Tomorrow
Airport dining continues to get better -- or at least to break free from the clutches of McDonald's and Burger King -- with Smashburger (the "better burger" chain) opening a location tomorrow at Newark airport.
Smash it. Or just eat it.
Terminal C3 (also home to a branch of Gallagher's Steak House should you be looking for more upscale fare) will house the burger restaurant, the first airport location for the company. It'll show its Jerz pride with region-specific dishes like the New Jersey Smashburger, which is topped with applewood-smoked bacon, blue cheese crumbles, grilled onions, haystack onions, lettuce, tomato, and mayo, all on an onion bun. Plus two hometown hot dogs will grace the menu -- the Jersey Dog, which features sauerkraut, grilled onions, and spicy brown mustard; and the Italian Dog, crowned with peppers, potatoes, and onions.
Smashburger doesn't have any Big Apple branches yet, so this is as close as New York is going to get. But a company rep tells us that a location is planned for Brooklyn later this year.
