Steamers Landing Transformation into Merchants River House Complete

Melissa Maher Merchants River House, reinvented.
Merchants River House, the new incarnation of Steamers Landing in Battery Park, is up and running. The bland reception-hall decor of this waterfront restaurant has been replaced with smart, naval stripes and a warmer American-bistro atmosphere. The menu, overhauled by executive chef Wade Burch, who also heads up the kitchen at SouthWest NY and the forthcoming Neely's Barbecue Parlor, is also more all-American, featuring mac 'n' cheese, deviled eggs, burgers, ribs, and buffalo chicken sliders.
The facelift and menu upgrade have already proved successful: A recent Sunday was busy for brunch. But summer is sure to bring the real hordes, clamoring for views of Lady Liberty. A waterfront restaurant on a stretch of the harbor that's hurting for dining options, after all, should not go unfrequented.
