Time Out Gets a Namesake Beer

Tastier than eating a magazine.
The city's latest beer isn't a new seasonal ale or anything like that. Nope, it was created as part of a marketing campaign to celebrate weekly mag Time Out New York's beer issue, which is being billed as the city's ultimate guide. No longer just magazine scribes, their staffers are moonlighting as brewers.

Time Out New York teamed up with Brooklyn's Sixpoint Craft Ales to develop their own proprietary beer called Time Out for Porter. The porter (a traditional English beer) was the starting point, since it's supposed to be a nod to London, where the magazine brand originated back in 1968. Additional hops were added for some Yankee flair for a beer with a sharp bitterness that's balanced with smooth dark-chocolate undertones.

We haven't yet sampled the suds, but Time Out for Porter will be available beginning today in limited release at Barcade, Bar Great Harry, Blind Tiger Ale House, the Bronx Ale House, d.b.a, Jimmy's No. 43, Mission Dolores, Rattle N Hum, Spuyten Duyvil, and Sunswick 35/35. Who knows? Maybe Village Voice vodka will be next. (Don't hold your breath for that, though.)
