What to Drink at Veritas: The Americano Spritzer

Each week in The Daily Shot, we have ourselves a drink that we think you should try, too.

Americano Spritzer
The drink: Americano Spritzer

The bar: Veritas, 43 East 20th Street, 212-353-3700

The price: $13

The ingredients: Aperol, Punt e Mes, orange bitters, and prosecco, served in a Collins glass with a lemon twist.

The buzz: Veritas reopened late last year with a new chef and a more relaxed attitude. And you know what that means: cocktails! The brief drinks menu has a few options to distract from the oenophiliac wine list, if only for a moment. And if you're going to move on to vino, which you invariably are, the Americano Spritzer is a good place to start. Bitter and bright, it's a variation on the old Campari favorite. It comes layered, dark to light, but is best sipped stirred. Like any drink that sparkles, it gets the palate going without getting you soused, and makes for a delightful prelude to the serious wine-drinking business ahead.
