Brits Invade the Upper East Side with Desmond's, Set to Open Tomorrow

A British-born chef-and-restaurateur team is gearing up to open Desmond's tomorrow, March 3. The "clubby" restaurant is mere blocks from another British import, Le Caprice.

Owner Richard O'Hagan and chef-owner David Hart describe their menu as "modern American club food," featuring dishes like "La Goulue" tuna tartare ($14); veal cheeks, mashed potato, watercress, and onion rings ($24); beef Wellington for two ($28 per person); and desserts by pastry chef Liliana Meyers, formerly of Daniel. Per a press release, the restaurant is set in a converted bank dating to 1929. It will open for lunch in two weeks.

A wannabe Caprice you must be joking, I found Desmond's to be younger, music louder and with more of a downtown feel. Le Caprice I like, But really obvious for a glam hotel restaurant, expensive, look a-likes hookers at the bar, wealthy visitors and rich Russians.

the space is what initially impresses you when you walk in Desmond's, but I was there opening night and the food is what I remember! The salmon and eggs with caviar and the halibut were DELICIOUS!! And our waiter, Mateo, was excellent! So exciting to have a cool new place on the UES.
