Is Matsugen Closing?

Almost three years after Jean-Georges Vongerichten opened it, it looks like Matsugen may be closing.
The news comes from the Tribeca Citizen, who got word of the closure from a member of the restaurant's staff.
The restaurant's publicity office declined to confirm the closure at this time.
When Vongerichten opened the Tribeca restaurant in June 2008, he wrote on his blog that he was "thrilled to bring truly authentic, refined Japanese dishes to this great city in a warm, chic setting." The chef collaborated on the restaurant, which he called "a soba house" with the Matsushita brothers, three chef siblings who hailed from Japan and whom Vongerichten called "true artists in the kitchen."
Although Frank Bruni rewarded Matsugen with a three-star review in the Times, the restaurant, which was previously home to Vongerichten's 66, had some difficulty drawing a critical mass down to Church Street. The Tribeca Citizen says that the restaurant's last day will be Saturday; if that's the case, now would be an opportune time to indulge a soba craving.
