Scali Caffé Supplants New York Hot Dog & Coffee
Where once there was New York Hot Dog & Coffee, there will soon be Scali Caffé. A stroll by 245 Bleecker Street earlier this afternoon turned up both a new awning and a smaller sign advertising a selection of cured meats that the restaurant will ostensibly serve.
While a quick Google search yielded no information about the new business, a search for the "scalinatella" on its awning turned up repeated references to a swank hotel by the same name on the island of Capri. New York Hot Dog & Coffee opened in 2008 and closed two years later, and is remembered largely for its bulgogi hot dog; it remains to be seen whether the new restaurant's owners will have an easier time telegraphing the Amalfi Coast than the previous ones did peddling caffeine and wieners.
