Salmon Week

You wouldn't know it by checking the mercury, but it's spring. Celebrate the season the Swedish way ... with salmon! The full salmon smorgasbord includes salmon pâté with asparagus salad, salmon pudding with brown butter and lemon, salmon and shrimp deviled eggs, and gravlax, all for $28 per person at lunch, and $35 at dinner.

STREETS International Benefit
Astor Center
Wednesday, March 30, 7 p.m.

Masaharu Morimoto, Anita Lo, Harold Dieterle, and Jim Meehan are some of the chefs and mixologists who will be featured at this tasting event benefiting STREETS in Hoi An, VIetnam, a hospitality school-slash-café where local disadvantaged youth are offered an 18-month training program to help them achieve financial independence. Tickets are $125.

Pellegrino Artusi, the First Italian Cookbook Writer
The New School
Thursday, March 31, 6 p.m.

Join cookbook author Michele Scicolone, Italian literature professor Roberto Ludovico, Mitchell Davis of the James Beard Foundation, and chef Cesare Casella for a panel discussion on the life and work of Pellegrino Artusi on the 100th anniversary of his death. His seminal 1891 cookbook, The Science of Cooking and the Art of Eating Well, helped define Italian food as we know it. Admission is $5.

Whisky Benefit for Japan Earthquake & Pacific Tsunami Relief

Saturday, April 2, 5 p.m.

Eat and drink for a good cause. Whiskey luminaries Dave Schmier of Redemption Rye and Gable Erenzo of Tuthilltown will be among the guests, and there will also be a silent auction and raffle of whisk(e)y, art, and robots. Other brown liquors you'll get to sample include Highland Park, Compass Box, and Heaven Hill. Tickets are $30.
