Looking for Something to Do? How About the "Do Something Reel" Film Festival
Dinner and a movie is a prescription for a fun time, but sometimes a movie about dinner is even better. Which is why the Whole Foods-sponsored "Do Something Reel" Film Festival at City Cinemas Village East next week is shaping up to be a great event.
The festival was created to raise awareness about environmental and food issues, and will be screening six on-target films about where your dinner came from or the hidden implications of eating dinner, including:
Bag It! -- a film about plastic bag usage and how they are difficult to recycle and the biological damage that has occurred because of plastic waste.
Lunch Line -- a movie about school lunches and the inner workings of the federal school meal program.
On Coal River -- a tale of the toxic threat posed by a waste facility in West Virginia.
PLANEAT -- a movie about how our food choices affect the planet.
Urban Roots - a story that follows the urban farming phenomenon in Detroit and discusses how to forge a sustainable and prosperous future, particularly in collapsed industrial towns.
Vanishing of the Bees -- a story examining why the honeybees are disappearing and dying from colony collapse disorder.
And, on Earth Day (April 22), there will be a special screening of Dig It, which tells the story of Pearl Jam and their tree-planting efforts in New York and other cities. Who knew they were such environmentalists!
The screenings are taking place April 16-22, and a full list of showtimes can be found at here. Just make sure you sneak in your own organic popcorn.
