Midtown Mofongo Alert! Mangú Dominican Kitchen Coming Soon

Midtown's a bit of a dud dining destination, so the arrival of a new spot is always cause for celebration. And given the lack of Dominican food in the 'hood, it's particularly exciting that Mangú Dominican Kitchen will open soon at 158 East 45th Street.

Windows are still papered up, but it appears that the restaurant will feature a fast-casual concept and span the gamut of meats (stewed oxtail), rice (rice and peas), breakfast dishes (Dominican salami), specials (mofongo and mandongo), soups and salads (Caribbean chicken soup), and sandwiches (a Cuban). Good news for office workers in the area, and it's further turning East 45th into an international hub of inexpensive eats, following Japanese rice-ball emporium oms/b and the new Turkish spot from Orhan Yegen, Bi Lokma. Check out the menu here since Mangú opening is set for later this spring.
