Almost two months after Nate Smith's sudden departure from Dean Street, the restaurant's owners have found his replacement.

John Longo, who owns the restaurant with Rob Gelardi, writes in to tell us that Mike Franzetti is now in charge of the kitchen. He comes to Dean Street from Stuzzicheria, where he was the executive chef, and has a résumé that includes Lupa, Chestnut, Washington Park, and Palladin.

Smith, of course, came to the Prospect Heights restaurant from the Spotted Pig, where he was the chef de cuisine. During his brief tenure at Dean Street, he turned out solid gastropubby food. Franzetti, Longo writes, will introduce new dishes over the coming weeks and "make the menu his own over time." Whether it will include Smith's mean burger and curried cauliflower remains to be seen, as does Franzetti's stance on television.
