Equal pay for equal scarfing
Following an onslaught of criticism, Nathan's Famous has raised the grand prize amount for the women's portion of its annual hot-dog-eating contest to $10,000 from $2,500, making it equal to the men's prize.

The New York Daily News is reporting that outcry from fans drove organizers to rethink their stance on prize equality. This year's competition, slated for July 4, is the first one to have a separate event for women. While no woman has ever won the 96-year-old contest, a number have competed, including two last year. A favorite for this year's event is Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas, who scarfed 36 wieners and buns last year, falling short of winner Joey Chestnut's 54.
