Park Slope Is Awash in Frozen Dairy

This past weekend brought major developments for Park Slope lactose lovers, thanks to SkyIce ice cream and Culture Yogurt.

Here's Park Slope reported late last week that SkyIce would soon be opening in a former dog-treats bakery (yes, Rome is falling) on Fifth Avenue. When we called the shop this morning, its owner, a Thai woman named Gun, told us that they were indeed open, and selling 14 to 15 flavors of homemade ice cream and sorbet that include sea salt caramel, mango, and black sesame seaweed. They're also doing crepes and savory northern Thai dishes like chicken noodle curry.

Several blocks south on Fifth Avenue, Culture: An American Yogurt Company also opened last weekend. Per Here Is Park Slope, its owners buy all of their antibiotic- and hormone-free milk from an upstate dairy and strain it on the premises. They offer both plain and frozen yogurt, and if Fucked in Park Slope is to be believed, it's pretty damn good. "I WANTED TO HAVE SEX WITH THIS YOGURT," reads the review, which goes on to describe it as "FRESH TO DEATH." OK! Still not convinced? How about this: "There is a major BREEDER alert in effect due to the fact that this place offers healthy, delicious, snacks. But still: it's totally worth it."
