Pudgie's Fried Chicken Sets New York in Its Crosshairs

Oh, hooray. We're going to get another chain.

According to Crain's, the latest to set New York in its crosshairs is Pudgie's Famous Chicken. Hailing from Long Island, it's owned by Trufoods, a franchise operator that's given the world such establishments as Arthur Treacher's Fish & Chips and the Wall Street Deli.

Pudgie's has a big poultry boner for New York, as Trufoods is planning to open 20 franchises throughout Brooklyn and Queens, and hopes to have 50 locations in the next five years. The first is supposed to open in Bay Ridge in May.

Pudgie's execs are quick to point out that their product is healthier because while fried, it's skinless. It will also be offered grilled. Either way, it's kind of depressing.
