Stock Up on the Samoas! It's the Last Week for Girl Scout Cookies

samoa_cookie.jpg
Best. Girl. Scout. Cookie. Period.
All the Girl Scout cookies are great, but Samoas are truly the greatest of them all. At least according to New Yorkers, who prefer the caramel-coconut-chocolate delight over Thin Mints, which is the most popular cookie nationwide. And really, there's no comparison. Samoas are awesome. And the Girl Scout cookie pop-ups are ending next week, so best stock up on Samoas while you can.

According to reps for the Girl Scouts, national cookie sales break down as follows:

1. Thin Mints: $175 million
2. Samoas (Caramel deLites): $133 million
3. Tagalongs (Peanut Butter Patties): $91 million
4. Savannahs (Peanut Butter Sandwiches): $71 million
5. Trefoils (Shortbread): $63 million
6. Other varieties: $167 million

And have you ever wondered about the naming of the cookies? Interestingly, Girl Scout Councils choose their licensed baker -- either Little Brownie Bakers or ABC Bakers -- to produce the cookies. Each of the bakers owns its cookie names, with the exception of Thin Mint, which is in the common domain. So a similar cookie could be either a Trefoil or Shortbread, Caramel deLite or Samoa. Then the local Girl Scout Council determines which one will be on the market when they select their baker. Who knew!
