Sergimmo Salumeria Bringing Even More Italian Foods to New York. Because We Didn't Have Enough Already!

Iacopo Falai isn't the only one creating an Italian mini-mart these days. Sergimmo Salumeria, a new shop devoted to Italian cured meats, regional cheeses, pastas, olive oils, prepared dishes, and panini, is set to officially open at 456 Ninth Avenue (212-967-4212) on April 25. So how's the shop going to compete in the ever-crowded upscale-Italian-food-sphere?

"Sergimmo Salumeria complements these other stores [like Eataly] in that we are all bringing traditions of artisanal food of regional Italy to America and Americans. The difference is, we are not a gourmet-food emporium. We are the equivalent of the local 'salumi' store found in every Italian town and village and city in Italy," notes Sergio Badalamenti, who owns the shop along with his brother Massimo. "Most Americans think they know real Italian food, but stores like ours are opening the eyes of not just foodies but whole communities of people wanting to experience the real food of Italy."

Although the brothers have another outpost in Whiteston, New York, this will be their first foray into the Big Apple. And, hey, if they can help alleviate the stress and crowded feeling of shopping at Eataly, more power to them.

IT PROBABLY SMELLS DISGUSTING TO YOU BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO IDEA AND CLUE ABOUT ITALIAN FOOD AND GOODS SO BEFORE TRYING TO PUT A PLACE DOWN GO AND DO SOME RESEARCH ON ITALIAN FOOD THEN COME AND PUT UP A REVIEW .......... AND REGARDING THE PRICE ITS A REASONABLE PRICE ESPECIALLY HOW GREAT THESE GUY WORK AND THE AMAZING WORK THEY DO AND HOW HAPPY THEY MAKE THEIR CUSTOMERS ( WELL THE ONCE THAT UNDERSTAND ABOUT ITALIAN FOOD). saw fresh mozz being made on site pretty wild , i think one of the owners was giving it away as a taste test _it was steaming hot melted in your mouth!!!!

I was at Sergimmo's yesterday. This place is a dream especially if you're a Mozerella, cured meats fan. I was served in under 5 minutes although I was happy to wait longer- once you meet the owner, you'll understand why. Sergio was such an accomidating person and I loved the look of the place in general. It was warm, cozy and inviting. I felt like I was at home. I'm definitely going back for lunch every day!

Fresh, authentic Italian eats at their best. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. I Was offered several samples of meats and cheeses before ordering. The tasteful and cozy decor made my experience even more enjoyable. Can't wait to get back on 36th and 9th to visit Sergimmo Salumeria again :)

MOZZARELLA IS BEST EATEN WHEN IT’S WARM☺. BESIDES THAT THE PLACE IS TOO CHIC AND HIP FOR WORDS, IT LOOKS LIKE SOME CAFÉ DOWN ON WEST BROADYWAY. The mozzarella here is to die for! Walked by, they were giving out samples of different cheeses and I had to stop in to buy their home made mozzarella. Very friendly staff; make you feel like they have known you for years.
