Fishy business at Whole Foods
In a recent Greenpeace ranking of seafood sustainability in supermarkets, Whole Foods ranked fourth, behind Target, which came in second, and Safeway, which took the number-one spot.

According to New Mexico Business Weekly, Whole Foods could not compete with Safeway's policy of discontinuing the sale of unsustainably caught fish altogether, despite last year having implemented a color-coded sustainability guide in its stores. Trader Joe's scored slightly higher than Walmart, coming in 12th out of 20 retailers ranked, just below Costco. To ensure that you're buying sustainably caught fish, we recommend downloading the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch app.
