Pretty, yes, but he's no Padma.
Because there can't be more than two weeks without a Top Chef show on the air, Season 3 of Top Chef Masters premieres tonight at 11 on Bravo. Nevertheless, this season is shaping up to look exciting.

According to TV Guide, on tonight's episode three of the 12 master cheftestants will fail to complete their Quickfire dishes. Then, the group is immediately hit with a round of Restaurant Wars. Boom!

New York City chefs represent a quarter of the competition: Aldea's George Mendes (who is having a big week, also having just been named one of America's best new chefs by Food & Wine); Floyd Cardoz, formerly of Tabla and soon to be of North End Grill; and Suvir Saran of Devi will be competing for charity. Plus Gael Greene and Jay Rayner are gone, with Ruth Reichl and James Osland taking their places. Curtis Stone will host, presumably because he can actually cook, whereas Kelly Choi just looked pretty. Or maybe it's because NBC wanted to cross-promote its other show, America's Next Great Restaurant, on which Stone appears.

And according to Bravo, this season will welcome a bevy of celebrity guest judges, including Mad Men's Christina Hendricks, Maroon 5, and Kelis, among others. Why, exactly, they'll be judging a culinary competition instead of known foodies remains to be seen, but undoubtedly relates to projects they'll be promoting.
