The Crowds at the Greenmarket Could Always Be Worse

The next time you find yourself grumbling over the weekend crowds clogging the average New York City greenmarket, consider this: At least you don't have to worry about being run over by a commuter train.

The video above shows a Bangkok vegetable market situated right next to one of the city's rail lines, and what's remarkable about it is the way vendors and train exist in ostensible harmony: Boxes of produce are stacked just high enough to avoid being run over, even in the middle of the rail bed, and as soon as the train passes by, everyone lowers their awnings and returns to business as usual. It's strangely beautiful, and we fully expect the model to be appropriated by someone intent on selling small-batch mayonnaise and hand-crafted strawberry balsamic preserves on the Smith and 9th Street tracks ...
