Best Pizza Fiddles With Ferns on Its Veggie Slice

The first time we ate Best Pizza's veggie slice, it was covered with Brussels sprouts, mushrooms, cauliflower, and onions. It made us happy, and we made plans to eat it again. By the time we finally returned to the shop last weekend, the slice ($4) had changed with the seasons, and now sported some stylish new togs.

As you can see, the Best crew has busted out the fiddlehead ferns, making this the first time we've ever seen them on a slice, and hopefully not the last. They work well with cheese and crust and ramps and mushrooms, all of which were rendered beautifully here. We were a little less wild about the green peas, as to our palates they didn't really add much to the overall flavor, but the earthiness of the mushrooms, bite of the ramps, and mellow, vaguely asparagus-like fiddleheads more than compensated for this minor disappointment.

It's spring on a square, guaranteed not to last but something to savor in the brief moment it's here.
