Josh DeChellis Has Parted Ways With La Fonda Del Sol
Two and a half years after he helped open La Fonda del Sol, executive chef Josh DeChellis has left the restaurant.

Reps for the restaurant, which is a new incarnation of Joe Baum's legendary '60s-era pan-Latin restaurant, informed Eater that DeChellis's last day will be May 6. Prior to his work with La Fonda del Sol, he earned lavish praise for his cooking at Sumile, and considerably less lavish praise for his work at BarFry.
In reviewing La Fonda del Sol in 2009, Sarah DiGregorio noted that "the main courses ... are well-executed, but something about them feels impersonal," but concluded that "it's easy to root for a chef who makes simple things like fried shrimp and braised short ribs into revelations."
No reason was given for DeChellis's departure, but the restaurant (which will continue to serve his menu) in its statement "wishe[d] him the very best in his future ventures." Pretty cold, though still not nearly on par with getting dumped by an entire city.
