Plaza Hotel Sues Oak Room and Bar for Being Embarrassing

A veritable den of iniquity

Looks like the owners of the Plaza Hotel weren't fans of the Oak Room and Bar's Mel Gibson "bipolar" cocktail, either.

The New York Post reports that the hotel's owners last week filed a $33.3 million lawsuit against the bar's operators, Jeffrey and Eli Gindi. The basis of the lawsuit seems to be that the Gindis have more or less dragged the once-venerated institution down into the gutter with a series of Sunday-night burlesque shows, along with "alleged use of illegal drugs, the encouragement of 'raucous and/or vulgar' conduct, loud music, a failed city health inspection and poor restaurant reviews."

That failed health inspection occurred in January, when the restaurant -- which reopened in 2008 after extensive renovation -- earned a "C" from the DOH, while the poor reviews came courtesy of everyone from New York magazine to the Times to the users of Zagat. But what about Gossip Girl fans? Does their opinion count for nothing?
