The Flatiron District is getting more Mediterranean in the form of Zio Ristorante (17 West 19th Street), opening late next week.

Chef Max Convertini, formerly of Bottega del Vino, will turn out a menu inspired by the village of Ostuni, at the heel of the boot from whence he hails. Dishes include Riso al Salto, a crunchy saffron risotto cake with bone marrow and gremolata sauce; Polipo e Panelle, grilled octopus with chickpea cake and chicory; and homemade pastas. Lunch and brunch will also be served, and the restaurant will have -- wait for it -- a chef's table.

Cannot wait for this "ristorante" to open. It is a great new addition to the Italian fares in NYC.
