Mexicue to Bring Its Chili Sliders to Forsyth Street

Mexicue's beets will travel to Forsyth Street.
Earlier this year, the Mexicue truck announced its intentions to open a two-story storefront in the Garment District. Now it's on track to multiply further with another brick-and-mortar location on the Lower East Side.

Per The Real Deal, the truck, which launched last year, just signed a lease for a 2,000-square-foot space at 106 Forsyth Street between Broome and Grand streets. The storefront was last home to Crust Bakery & Café, which opened in late 2003 and was known for its mango mousse and mini-cheesecakes.

Its proximity to the soccer fields at Sara Delano Roosevelt Park and the inebriated crowds spilling out of Happy Ending would seem to ensure a ready-made clientele for Mexicue, which bills itself as "the sweet, sweet love child of red-hot Mexican cuisine and down-home, barbeque goodness." No date has been set for the opening, but expect it to be greeted with both media fanfare and disgruntled commentary from opponents of Chinatown's gentrification.
