"Do I dare to eat a peach?" as T.S. Eliot asked.

Two weeks ago it was the Frozen Treat Fortnight, while last week it was the Big Gay Food Blog. This week the obsessive product of our blogging will be food that's become a special part of Americana in observance of Independence Day, including contributions from many native and immigrant groups. It's the food we all share in common, before adding our own special flourishes.

So please join Fork in Road each day for the next five to see what we come up with, culminating in Our 10 Best Classic American Dishes and Where to Get Them, posted bright and early on Friday morning. What's your favorite classic American recipe? Fried chicken? Indian pudding? Egg foo yung? The Hamburger? Barbecued ribs? Hoppin' John? Shrimp 'n' grits? Chili con queso? Spaghetti and meatballs? Turtle soup?

Tune in and turn on to a new perspective on classic American cooking all this week on Fork in the Road.
