Counter Is Really, Truly Closing This Sunday

Although it's usually restaurant opening dates that get postponed ad nauseam, Counter is finally shutting its doors five months after it was initially slated to close. Gothamist reports that the vegetarian restaurant, which has been a fixture on First Avenue for many years, will have its last day of service on July 17. Alex Stupak will subsequently open a second location of Empellón in the space this winter, while Counter's chef, Elena Balletta, will turn her attention to Nasturtium, the supper club she runs with fellow chef Scott Winegard.
