Open and Closed: Say Hello to Betto, Goodbye to South Houston

Restaurants and bars, they come and they go. Here are a few making their debuts and bowing out this week.

Southernish restaurant South Houston on West Broadway near Grand Street has closed after little more than a year in business.

Pick-a-Pita has served its last its french-fry-stuffed shawarma, having closed without explanation.

The East Village Italian restaurant Tre Scalini has apparently shuttered just weeks after it opened.

'inoteca founder Jason Denton's latest is Betto, a new 60-seat restaurant in Williamsburg, offering mostly small plates, some large-format meals, and a Negroni of the Day.

Masten Lake in Williamsburg has a menu split into the categories Cold, Hot, Pasta, and Protein, designed by chef Angelo Romano, formerly of Roberta's and Lupa.

Ed McFarland of Ed's Lobster Bar has opened Caravelli's, a takeout pizzeria also serving dishes like chicken parm and heroes.

At Ellabess in the Nolitan Hotel, from the team behind L'Artusi and Anfora, expect dishes like fried chicken with pickled watermelon and rhubarb clafouti.

Jane's Sweet Buns, an East Village bakery opened by Cienfuegos bartender Jane Danger and Ravi DeRossi, offers boozy baked goods like buns glazed in aged rum. [Grub Street]

Blueprint, Park Slope's first craft cocktail bar, has arrived. A drinks list by Regina Christiansen includes Haymaker's Punch and a coffee cocktail called the Kickstarter.

Dekalb Market will kick off this Saturday in Downtown Brooklyn, peddling food, clothing, and other goods out of 160-square-foot shipping containers.
