This being National Ice Cream Month, it seems appropriate that scarcely a day passes without some dairy-related news to report. And today's a bi-borough triple-header.

Over in Lower Manhattan, DNAinfo brings word that the Big Gay Ice Cream Shop should open its doors "by the end of July or early August." We can't wait to see where owners Doug Quint and Bryan Petroff have stuck their 4,000 rhinestones.

But if you happen to be sweating through a Lower East Side Tenement Museum walking tour this week, you'll have to wait a bit longer to find sweet relief from Il Laboratorio del Gelato's Orchard Street store. Although it was slated to reopen last weekend, Bowery Boogie reports that it should instead be ready to go this Saturday, July 16.

And Saturday will also bring glad tidings to Brooklyn ice cream freaks, thanks to Smorgasburg's ice cream social. From 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Ample Hills Creamery, People's Pops, Raw Ice Cream, Early Bird Ice Cream, La Newyorkina, Kelvin Slush, Chozen, Steve's, Milk Made, and Blue Marble will serve scoops to the general populace, making the Williamsburg waterfront possibly the happiest place in all of New York, if only for one day.
