What to Drink at Maison Premiere: The Absinthe Frappe

Each week in The Daily Shot, we have ourselves a drink that we think you should try, too.

Get happy.
The drink: Absinthe Frappe

The bar: Maison Premiere (298 Bedford Avenue, Williamsburg, 347-335-0446)

The price: $12

Ingredients: Pernod 68, sugar, crushed ice, and water.

The buzz: It's not a flavor everyone loves. And so, if the floral, Alpine aniseed of absinthe doesn't tickle your fancy, this drink won't be your cup of tea. It doesn't fall into the realm of entry-level, but if absinthe is something you're trying to get into, then we'll call this one intermediate. It's served at a glacial temperature, thanks to the perfect pebble ice, and a frosted mint green. There's just enough sugar in it to take the edge off the Pernod, which isn't the subtlest of absinthes, to be sure. We suggest sipping one during happy hour out in the splendid romance-novel garden -- the frappe is cold enough to keep you comfortable in the late-day heat -- as you slurp $1 raw oysters on the half shell. Quite possibly one of the happiest happy hours around.

I think the concept of Absinthe incorporated as a cocktail seems to be like mixing a johnny walker with water and juice...
