Dish No. 53: Garlic Fries at Cupola Samarkanda II

P1000630x.jpg
French fries and crushed garlic -- two of the world's greatest substances, together at last.

Cupola Samarkanda II is an Uzbek restaurant in Bensonhurst. The fries are some of the best in town -- your choice of regular boxcar-shaped fries (above), done to a medium brown, or the so-called home potatoes -- squarer-shaped, but fried to an equivalent color.

Either type comes gobbed with so much crushed raw garlic, it will set your mouth on fire. Sometimes, you can also get dill on the fries if you ask for it nicely.

To wash your fries down, grab some Russian beer from the giant bodega around the corner on Avenue P. This place is BYOB.
