Dish No. 62: Jaal Moori at Thelewala

Jaal moori makes for great snacking at Thelewala.

Thelewala has quickly established itself as a go-to spot for chaats, or Indian street-food snacks. A recent visit had convinced us of the deliciousness that is the bhel pori, which combines puffed rice, potatoes, chickpeas, red onions, and two tangy chutneys. But it was the spicy jaal moori for which we found ourselves going back.

Puffed rice, peanuts, red onions, potatoes, and diced cucumber, plus a hint of lime and olive oil, are tossed together for a mouthful of crunch and touch of spice. Delightfully nutty, crunchy, and oniony, this makes for great afternoon snacking. Hell, come to think of it, why not make it a morning treat? After all, it bears some similarities to Rice Krispies. Just don't forget to brush your teeth afterward!
