Irate Soap Opera Fans Use Twitter to Chew Out The Chew

thechewapple.png
The Chew won't have its premiere for another six weeks or so, but irate soap-opera fans have already decided they hate it.

When the daytime food talk show premieres on September 26, it and a health-oriented talk show called The Revolution will take over the time slots formerly occupied by All My Children and One Life to Live. Soap-opera fans, who tend to be a rather passionate bunch, are not happy about this, and have channeled their displeasure into not one but two Twitter feeds called The Chew and Vomit and Screw the Chew. "Really, ABC?" reads a typical tweet on Screw the Chew. "'Small shrimp are less expensive and just as tasty!' That's what The Chew has to offer? Y'all are sad. Just sad."

Meanwhile, The Chew and Vomit tweeted at Michael Symon, one of the show's hosts, to say, somewhat unnecessarily, "We will NOT WATCH!" Symon actually seemed bummed out: "and ppl wonder why @altonbrown got off twitter," he tweeted. "its pppl [sic] like this that give u second thoughts." Somehow, we doubt ABC shares his reservations.

I put blame where BLAME is due: ABC, Disney, And anyone else involved with the attempted murder of an entire genre. It would be any replacement show not just The SPEW. ABC is dead in my eyes and as soon as my soaps end so will ABC on my TV as well as anything and everything Disney (including TV programming, vacations, movies, and merchandise). And I am not alone. Just look at their stock.

The Spew will make it a season if that and you'll have the many loyal soap fans to thank for that. Gordon Elliot is gravely mistaken if he thinks people's taste's have changed.

AND Rebecca Marx thanks for the publicity for our fight. You have a wonderful day and keep us in the spotlight. Bad publicity is better than no publicity.

All My Children and One Life to Live will be in their viewers' hearts forever. Perhaps The Village Voice could write an in-depth article on viewers feelings about the cancellations instead of branding us "irate" and putting naming the replacement show twice in your title.

watching the ads for "the chew", you can see this show will cost nothing to produce. ABC must be really in financial trouble to air this crap.

Well considering most people don't want a talk show or a reality show, and rather have the soaps, I can see why they don't want ABC's little cooking program.

ABC has been quick to quote the 30-40% savings they'll get by replacing AMC with "The Chew."  But when they get a 80-90% decrease in viewership, how will they explain?

The ratings for Luke and Laura's wedding were not only the highest in soap history, but many raced home or stayed home to watch. Now in 2012 we are able to watch our soaps several times over if we missed it, and can tape it to watch at a better hour. HOW MANY WILL TAPE THE REPLACEMENT SHOWS, or even watch a re run if they missed it. We are invested in these story lines and the stars who entertain us have become our friends through events for their charities. YOU WON'T EVER catch reality show people doing things for charities and holding events that sell out! We will scrimp and save our money to see our soap friends but will never pay a nickel or attention to these new replacement shows! We can't stomach what ABC has done to many favorite shows and the murder of the whole soap genre. I REVOLT and SPIT at these replacements has Disney has lost it's heart and soul. Roy and Walt are turning in their graves!

Number one, Mario Bartali is a theif who steals from his employees (google his name and read it for yourself) and Symon twisted his tweet to make it sound like @thechewandvomit was the reason Alton Brown left twitter, not mentioning that he made his own problems with negative tweets about obese peeps, @thechewandvomit had never heard of Alton before Symons tweet, so that would make him a liar and if he was mistaken because he was as you say "bummed" he should have retracted his tweet.

MarioBastardi has "tip-stealing" lawsuits in both NY and CA ... The California ones can be found via http://www.lasuperiorcourt.org and you can search the court docket for Bastardi's name and read all about it!!! ...

Amazing how Village Voice doesn't get all sides of the story first. I expect better from you folks.  Have you forgotten that NYC was the home to the majority of soap operas at one time?  Have you neglected to recognize the value of soap actors and their crews?  Oh, I forgot, anyone associated with the genre is marginalized, disrespected and treated like the insignificant stepchildren.

Unlike most mainstream screen actors, soap actors have maintained employment longevity and consistency outside the norm in the industry.  They've dutifully paid their AFTRA dues and worked long hours taking more salary cuts than any others in their professions. So instead of vomiting out a subset of facts, chew on the WHOLE picture.  Chef Symon and "thechewandvomit" have an intelligent respectful dialog ongoing at this point.  Yet your people failed to capture that line item.  The genre is in danger of death and that, in and of itself, should have been major subject matter for Village Voice.

Did you notice that ABC is airing "Chew" promos twice an hour during the legendary show its replacing? Tacky of ABC and not a way to endure an already displeased bunch of potential viewers. They should rethink their strategy.
