Kutsher's Tribeca Should Open at the End of October

Modern, Jewish, and not quite kosher
Some news to report about Kutsher's Tribeca, the "modern Jewish-food-inspired bistro" that's scheduled to open this fall at 186 Franklin Street.

Reps from the restaurant, whose partners include Jeffrey Chodorow and Zach Kutsher, write in with the news that its executive chef will be Mark Spangenthal, whose former employers include the Screening Room, the Dining Room, and Thor. We've already seen a glimpse of Spangenthal's menu, which will graft contemporary culinary fixations onto various staples of traditional Jewish cuisine. Expect, among other things, barbecue brisket-stuffed knishes, pastrami reuben sliders, and schmaltz-rubbed steak frites.

On Sundays there will be a Jewish-Chinese supper, a tradition lifted from Kutsher's Country Club, the Borscht Belt resort that's the restaurant's namesake. The original Kutsher's was kosher; this manifestation, with its cheeseburgers and chef salad with salami and gruyère, is decidedly not. Should all go according to plan, it will open at the end of October.
