(Food) Truckin'
Since it began four years ago, PARKED! Food Truck Festival has grown from a small slapdash culinary event with only five vendors to a full-on food fest, with more than 20 trucks participating in this year's event, which will take place at the South Street Seaport on August 20.

The list of participating trucks include Big D's Grub, Coolhaus Ice Cream, the Cinnamon Snail, Cupcake Crew, Feed Your Hole, Frites 'n' Meats, Gorilla Cheese Truck, Go Burger, JoyRide, Kelvin Natural Slush Co., Kimchi Taco, La Belle Torte, La Cense Burger, Mexicue Food Truck, Red Hook Lobster Pound, Taim Falafel, the Treats Truck, Valduccis Pizza Truck, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, Wafels & Dinges, Green Pirate Juice, Schnitzel and Things, Desi Food Truck, Two Pitas, Wooly's Ice, and Anne Apparu Soup Caravan. All trucks will be offering items at five-dollar and eight-dollar price points along with their regular menu, and a beer garden will also be created on-site. The festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., though in situations like these, it's best to go early to avoid the hungry crowds and long lines.

REALLY??? And what does this kind of an event do to help the merchants who are paying "big rents" for stationary stores at The South Street Seaport.  How does this help the Food Court at South St. Seaport/Pier 17???  By the way, I am NOT a merchant at South St. Seaport, BUT, when I read about this event, I was wondering what the LOGIC was behind it during this devastating economy.  It seems to me that all of the stationary food businesses might as well be closed during this rediculously planned event!

i agree with brett. i've lived here for 2 years and i had no idea south st seaport existed until they had an event i wanted to go to. When I saw it for the first time I figured i'd love to come back on my own because it was so cool there. Now they've gained me as a customer due to this simple marketing idea, and I'm highly likely to take my out of town tourist friends down there now also.

That seems incredibly short-sighted.  The Seaport isn't a place that every New Yorker automatically goes to.  An event like this gets people down there, gets them aware of all the restaurants and attractions that exist down there and encourages them to return at a future point.  This is great advertising for the commercial district down there in general.  Take some business classes.  Or calm down.

The reason it helps stationary stores is because you can buy beer from them (which is what I do), while eating at the food trucks.
